iLia Anossov

iLia Anossov was born in Moscow in 1966, attended official art schools and explored various media including cinematography, architecture and visual arts. However his true education came through classic-style apprenticeships to master artists, between 1983 and 1996, he served three 4-year long apprenticeships in Russia and United States.

iLia Anossov (fresco) has established a “Nationwide Fresco Painting Workshop Program” as a systematic tutorial on the technique of fresco painting. The Program has grown into the only year-around Fresco School in the country. iLia explains, “I arrived from Russia for a one-man exhibition at Springfield Museum of Art in 1992. I was amazed by the fact that Fresco was considered a lost art and was not represented in the contemporary art world since Diego Rivera. There was no school, not even a source of consistent information to guide artists in their exploration of the medium. Ever since then, the dream “to see fresco being painted in every town” has consumed everything I could think of.

iLia Anossov is one of the very few artists in the world who are considered masters of the art of fresco painting. His work includes large and small fresco paintings, conceptual fresco installations, fresco objects, sculptures and fresco stacks.

iLia has been widely exhibited in Russia, Europe and the United States including 7 Museum Exhibitions and over 50 Solo and Group exhibitions around the World.
